Monthly Archives: July 2011
As I mentioned previously, last weekend from July 15-17, Petfinder.com celebrated their 15th Birthday with a Big Birthday Adoption Event. The online adoption site, which features rescues and shelters nationwide and their adoptable pets, hoped to help 15,000 dogs, cats, bunnies, gerbils, horses, and other companion animals find loving homes during the three-day event.
Petfinder.com met their goal.
Asking affiliated shelters and rescues to check in with their adoption totals, the final tally was 15,700 animals adopted.
15,700 animals in loving homes!! That total blows my mind. None of those adoptions would have been possible without heightened awareness about the value of shelter and rescue animals and Petfinder.com.

Black and Orange’s 5th Annual Garage Sale was even featured on the Petfinder.com web site as one of the events going on over the weekend to celebrate Petfinder’s 15th Birthday. You can see that HERE.
We want to thank everyone who supported us during our garage sale. We raised almost $2500 to help the kitties. Our good friend, Vivian Opelt, also adopted two of her foster kitties, Andy and Billy, in to a great home over the birthday weekend due to their postings on Petfinder.com. We were able to add those two adoptions to the overall adoption count for Petfinder’s weekend. Hurrah!
Remember, when you are considering a new friend in your life, consider a shelter or rescue animal first and check out Petfinder.com to find a furry face near you!
The Animal Rescue Site and Petfinder.com are holding Round 3 of the 2011 $300,000 Shelter Challenge. Most of you know how to do this, because you have been clicking daily to vote for Black and Orange in past contests. But here we go again!
Visit The Animal Rescue Site each day and click on the purple button that says, “Click Here to Give–it’s FREE!” to give free food to shelter animals. After you click on the purple button, you will be directed to a second page where a “Vote Now” box will appear. Click on that box to vote each day for Black and Orange Cat Foundation. You can find us by putting in our name and Plain City, Ohio.
The grand prize is a $5,000 grant! State winners each receive $1,000. Weekly winners, over the eleven weeks of the challenge, will each win $1,000.
So please vote for us daily by going HERE to click to give.
Besides the daily voting, The Animal Rescue Site is also offering a Funny Fluffy Photo Caption Contest. Submit a happy pet photo and a funny caption and you could help your favorite rescue (US!) win a grant. The photo winners will choose a rescue or shelter to receive a $2,000 and a $1,000 grant. The Photo Contest begins on July 4 and ends on July 25. To find out more about the contest and enter your photo, go HERE.
Thank you to everyone who continues to vote for us each day! Even though we haven’t won yet, we know we will with your support!
Petfinder.com will be celebrating their 15th birthday from July 15-17 during their Big Birthday Adoption Weekend. In conjunction with that, they are aiming for 15,000 adoptions over the course of that weekend.
Over the past 15 years, Petfinder.com has worked with rescues and shelters to adopt more than 17 million pets into loving homes. If you visit the Birthday page for Petfinder, you can find local shelters and rescues that are participating in the event, see adoptable pets, and sign a birthday card with a photo of your pet. Visit their birthday page HERE.
Black and Orange will be doing our best to help Petfinder.com reach their goal of 15,000 adoptions. So please take a look at our adoptable kitties and plan to take one home over that weekend: www.bandocats.petfinder.com
Rhatima, or Queen Rainey as we have nicknamed her, is our featured cat for the Birthday celebration. We would LOVE to find her forever home during this celebration. To see photos of Rhatima and read her story, visit her on Petfinder.com or our blog.
We will be holding our 5th Annual Garage sale over that weekend, too, from Thursday, July 14 to Sunday, July 17. Our garage sale always coincides with the Miami Valley Steam Threshers Association Show at Pastime Park in Plain City. This is the 62nd year for the Steam Show and they will be featuring the Cockshut/Co-op Tractors. To see a full schedule of Steam Show events, go HERE.
As most of you know, our board member, Carol Gaul, lives in a house at 176 Anderson Avenue, which abuts Pastime Park and makes it a perfect place to hold the garage sale. Carol and her husband, Chuck, lost their home and their kitties last August to a house fire. But they have emerged from the ashes, rebuilt, found new kitties to love, and are planning on having the sale again this year.
We are still collecting donations for the sale. If you have anything you would like to donate, please call Carol at 614-419-1553.
The garage sale will begin each day at 9 am (maybe earlier if Carol has her coffee) and will last until the final buyer leaves for the day. We always have a wide mixture of things and new stuff arrives daily. So come, shop early, and shop often.
We have a lot to celebrate, so please join us!
We have signed up for the Macy’s “Shop for a Cause” event on Saturday, August 27. The tickets are $5 and we keep all proceeds. The $5 allows you to buy a Shopping Pass for exclusive savings in every Macy’s store on August 27th. You can enter to win a $500 Macy’s Gift Card as part of the shopping events.
If you would like to purchase a $5 Macy’s Shopping Pass, please email us at bandocats@columbus.rr.com and we will make sure to get a ticket to you. You can also purchase tickets at Plain City Druggist, 480 South Jefferson Avenue, Plain City, across from Der Dutchman Restaurant on Route 42. The pharmacy is open 9-6 Monday to Friday, closed from 1:15-2:15 for lunch, and Saturday from 9-12.
Additionally, we will be selling tickets at our adoption event in July at the PetSmart on Sawmill Road, at our garage sale at 176 Anderson Avenue from July 14-17 during the four days of the Miami Valley Steam Show, and at the BarkPark garage sale on Saturday, August 20. So if you’d like to get tickets, stop by and see us and the kitties.
